Fifty Years of Doctor Who: Terrance Dicks, Graeme Harper, Richard Franklin – and a Dalek!
1.30pm-3.30pm inc. signings / Lincoln Drill Hall
Lincoln Inspired joins forces with The Doctor to mark his golden jubilee. Writer Terrance Dicks was script editor from 1968 to 1974. He wrote many key episodes plus the 20th anniversary episode The Five Doctors in 1983. He also wrote many of the novelisations of Doctor Who stories in the 70s and 80s. He was as big a name to fans then as current supremo Stephen Moffat is today. Director Graeme Harper’s relationship with the Doctor goes back to 1966 and Patrick Troughton’s first story The Power of the Daleks. His first as director was the last story to feature Peter Davison, broadcast in 1984, which fans regard as one of the best ever. He went on to work with Colin Baker and, 20 years later, returned in 2005 when David Tennant was The Doctor. So far he’s the only director who’s worked on the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ shows. Actor Richard Franklin played Captain Mike Yates, sidekick of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart at UNIT, from 1971 to 1974, fighting mutated maggots and The Master. The panel will be talking to Siren FM’s Alex Lewczuk – and look out for a Dalek (courtesy of Waterstones) too! Merchandise from Doctor Who specialist cult TV and comic shop Galaxy Four will be on sale.
